8 Tips to Step up your Social Media Game in 2019 and Beyond

Gone are the days when the only medium of advertising or connecting with the audience was through a newspaper or TV advertisements or through billboards and pamphlets. At that time, it was a multi billion-dollar company, that is still worth a lot. But with the emergence of digital marketing, most brands are focusing more on it.

One of the most crucial tools of digital marketing is social media. As of 2019, there are 3.2 billion daily active social media users worldwide. It is a huge number, especially for a brand who wants to connect with the global audience.

There are tons of social media platforms but the famous ones are:

  • Facebook: 2.3 billion users
  • Instagram: 1 billion users
  • LinkedIn: 610 million users
  • Twitter: 330 million users
  • YouTube: 1.9 billion users
  • Whatsapp: 1.6 billion users (All facts are till May 2019)

These stats show that most of your target audience is on social media. To grab their attention and engage them to buy your products, you need to have a presence on social media. Also, if you are already on social media, but you don’t have enough followers, it’s time to tweak your social media. In both cases, these below-mentioned tips will help you step up your social media game.

  1. Work on your social media’s images

A post with images works best on social media, and that is why most brands use images or memes to promote their product or deliver a message. But using any image won’t work, it has to be relevant to the content and provide some value to the users.

Moreover, use a quality image, don’t use a picture that pixelates or is used by another brand. Stock images are a great option as they are cheaper, but when you use in-house image, it is more authentic and unique. Use Canva to make best images to post on social media.

  1. Make sure you are using the right platform

There are tons of social media platforms available in the market like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and so on. Now, if you are planning to make your brand’s page on every social media platform, it is a complete waste of time. It is because with so many pages, you won’t be able to give proper care and time to each page and it won’t work for you.

Also, not every platform is for every business. You have to experiment with each platform and figure out which one works best for you and dedicate your time and energy on that.

How to Step up your Social Media Game
  1. Make your brand more human and honest

It is important to connect with people on an emotional level on the internet, and for that, you need to humanize your brand. Unfortunately, most brands interpret it as posting more hashtags or using slang or memes. But to humanize your brand, the most important thing is to make it transparent, honest, and give it a personality.

To ensure your brand has a personality use humor or sarcasm, and involved people in your day to day endeavors. Show them behind the scenes of an event or show them a fun segment with your entire team, something that helps them connect with you.

  1. Use it for customer service

Most customers prefer social media when it comes to reporting any issues with the product.  A study shows that 54% of customers will use a social media platform to report or complain about a product rather than calling or emailing the brand.

Thus, it is crucial that you not only use your social media accounts for selling stuff but also to connect with people to solve their problems. It will show customers that you actually care about their issues and are working hard to solve them. It will also bring users your way.

  1. Share relevant content that is valuable to consumers and justifies your brand

Every social media is different catering to different needs of people. If you want your customers to notice you, you have to publish content that works on that platform. Also, the content has to be something that delivers the message you intended while also being relevant to the consumers.

Like Instagram or Facebook is all about the lifestyle, so sharing your private moments on them makes sense or posting informal images or posts. But on Twitter, you should share news or information about your product like its launch date or so on. Similarly, when using LinkedIn, emphasize on industry articles and data.

Here are the best content types that work on most social media platforms:

  • Ask questions from customers about their experience with the brand and what can you do to improve them?
  • Post something that can lead to a discussion between you or the customers or between other customers.
  • Inspirational quotes
  • Product images
  • Videos and so on.
  1. Advertise your social media accounts

There are numerous ways through which you can advertise your social media accounts like mentioning the social media links in email marketing or your blogs. Or you can also have social media buttons on your website so that users can easily access them.

  17. These are some great tips for helping improve social media when you are trying to promote your brand and business. #2 is especially important. It seems like too many people try to go all in on every social media platform there is and spread themselves too thin. This usually ends up resulting in not taking full advantage of the platforms that are performing best for them.

    1. When starting out, you can test several social networks, then with time, you narrow down to those that bring in the best results. Concentrate on those for maximum results.

  18. Great reminders – I tried (for about 45 days) to do too many social media platforms… and then realised “this is not my thing”. But it was also great, in that I realised very clearly which ones resonated with me and where I felt like a fish out of water.
I would certainly say to someone – try them all – and then choose which ones are “yours”.
